About Costa Brava

Costa Brava is an area along the coast that begins at the point of Blanes 60 km north of Barcelona and extends 160 km to border with France. Costa Brava, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are three main coastal tourist areas in Spain. 

During the regime of General Franco in 1960s, Costa Brava became a symbol of mass tourism due to places such as Lloret de Mar, Tossa del Mar and Blanes.
Nevertheless, after 50 years there are still many places that are not occupied by mass tourism. Some of them are Cadaques, Roses, Tamarii and Calella de Palafrugell. 


Blanes 

Blanes is one of the places intended for the development of mass tourism in 1960. It has a large tourist complex, but it is much quieter and far less known than Lloret de Mar. 

Blanes is mainly visited by Spanish tourists, primarily because it is located only 55 km north of Barcelona. Tourists are mainly older couples and families with children. Those who are searching for a rich nightlife will be bored. 

Coast Blanes is 4 km long with sandy beaches and steep cliffs. It has many small bays. Each has sufficient number of restaurants, tapas bars, showers, lounge chairs and other tourist facilities.

Lloret de Mar 

Lloret de Mar is the most popular tourist destination on the Costa Brava. It attracts younger tourists, mainly from 18-30 years, since it has an interesting nightlife and good beaches. 
The main beach is 1.5 km long and 50 meters wide, with white sand.

Lloret de Mar has large tourist complexes which remind us of concrete neon jungles. 
When you choose accommodation, keep in mind that there are many pubs and clubs which are open till morning. Thus, you will be not able to get sleep until morning.

On the other hand, many other hotels are on busy roads.

Tossa de Mar 

Tossa de Mar is a very popular resort with large crowds in the peak season in July and August. However, Tossa de Mar still has less mass tourism than Lloret del Mar. 
It offers a good nightlife and beaches cut by rocks. Tossa de Mar is a medieval walled city and it dates from the 12th century. The main entrance to the old town is the Clock Tower and it is placed within the walls of a network of narrow streets. 


In the old town, tourists can rent rooms or houses, while many others belong to Spanish people, who live in Barcelona and who have second homes here. 


Tossa de Mar is the first place in the Costa Brava that attracted foreigners due to the art colony of Mark Saga in 1930.
