Mojacer is a popular tourist destination in Andalusia, south of Spain. Local inhabitants call it “Mojaqueros”. It is also the home of Fundación Valparaíso. It is an international artistic colony, which hosts different artists every year. However, tourists are attracted to this place due to its lovely Mediterranean beaches. Moreover, its coastline is part of the Costa de Almeria.

Tourist Attractions

Today Mojacer has nearly 6000 citizens. If you are coming from abroad, then the easiest way is to fly to the international airport in Alicante. From there you can take a taxi.

Mojacer is a true paradise. It is a really picturesque little Mediterranean town with charming white houses, which are “poured” all over the hill. The warm Mediterranean Sea, which washes its pristine sandy beaches, gives a special charm to it. You can enjoy strolling down its cobbled streets.

Since its climate is mild and the sea is warm, this is a perfect place for swimmers round the year. Due to this specific climate, there is no winter. When it is the coldest time, temperature rarely goes under 20 degrees. However, during that period the sea stays warmer than the air. Furthermore, during the summer, this place is not as hot as others on the coast.

Mojacer offers fun time for lovers of water sports and golfers. Near the center of the city is a wonderful golf course. 

Food

Mojacer can offer you unusual dishes, which are actually the remains of Arabic influence in its history.
Here you can be served with some strange meals such as Gurullos, Pelotas, Gachas, Migas, Ajo and Frito Colorao pescado. However, there are lots of restaurants which serve excellent international food. The well known restaurants and bars are placed at Mojacer Playa.

Fiestas

Fiestas are an inevitable part of Spanish tradition. In Mojacer they celebrate Christen and Moslem in June, then San Augustin (the protector of the city), Romería de San Isidro in May, Bonfires of Saint John in June and at last Virgen del Rosarion (the female protector of the city) in October.
It is interesting that during Christen and Moslem fiesta, local people celebrate their Arabic origins. They dress up in strange clothes and imitate fights in the streets.

History

There are many archaeological proofs that this city existed even in the Bronze Age. Since it was conquered by many nations, it has Phoenician, Carthaginian, Greek, Roman and Arabic traces in nowadays life and architecture.
“The Golden period” for this city was in the 18th century. Unfortunately, later people emigrated to Latin America and other parts of Spain. So the city almost vanished. However, tourism helped Mojacer to flourish.
